Introduction
Triacontanol (TRIA) is a natural plant growth regulator found in epicuticular waxes. It is used to enhance the crop production in millions of hectares, particularly in Asia.
Quite a number of researchers have reported the TRIA-mediated improvement in growth, yield, photosynthesis, protein synthesis, uptake of water and nutrients, nitrogen-fixation, enzymes activities and contents of free amino acids, reducing sugars, soluble protein, and active constituents of essential oil in various crops.
Expectedly, TRIA enhances the physiological efficiency of the cells and, thus, exploits the genetic potential of plant to a large extent.
Action characteristics
1. Triacontanol can be absorbed by the stems and leaves of plants, and then promote the growth of plants, increase the accumulation of dry matter, improve the permeability of cell membranes, increase the content of chlorophyll, increase photosynthetic intensity, and enhance the activity of amylase, multioxidase, and peroxidase.
2. Triacontanol can promote germination, rooting, stem and leaf growth and flowering, make crops mature early, increase the fruiting rate, enhance cold and drought resistance, increase yield, and improve product quality.
3. Foliar spraying, the general concentration is 0.5ppm.It can promote seed germination, increase seed germination rate, and make seeds germinate evenly. It can enhance plant photosynthesis, increase chlorophyll content, and make leaves thicker and greener. It has a promoting effect on the growth of crops, can increase the number of branches and tillers of plants, and the tillers of gramineous crops such as wheat will increase. It can increase the fruiting rate and fruit setting rate of crops, for example, it can reduce the falling of flowers and fruits on fruit trees and crops, and increase the number of fruits. It helps to improve the quality of agricultural products, such as making the fruits fuller, better tasting, and increasing the nutritional content.
How to use?
1. Seed soaking: Generally, the seeds are soaked in a solution containing a certain concentration of triacontanol. The soaking time and concentration vary for different crops. For example, rice seeds can be soaked in a 0.1-0.5mg/L triacontanol solution for 2-3 days to promote seed germination.
2. Foliar spraying: According to the growth period of the crop, a solution of appropriate concentration is prepared for spraying. For example, during the vigorous growth period of vegetables, foliar spraying with a 0.5-1mg/L solution can make the vegetables grow stronger.
