Helicoverpa armigera NPV (HearNPV)

HearNPV Bio-Insecticide is a naturally occurring, highly specific insect virus used as a biological control agent against devastating caterpillar pests in the Helicoverpa genus. It acts as a target-specific bio-pathogen, triggering a localized natural epidemic within the pest population without affecting the surrounding ecosystem.

Core Product Benefits

  • Precision Target Specificity:
Exclusively lethal to Helicoverpa larvae. It is 100% safe for beneficial insects, pollinators (bees), predatory mites, and natural enemies, making it a cornerstone for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.
  • No Cross-Resistance:
Operates via a unique, non-chemical biological mechanism. It easily controls populations resistant to traditional chemical chemistries (pyrethroids, organophosphates) and Bt-transgenic crops, acting as an ideal Insecticide Resistance Management (IRM) tool.
  • Dual Transmission & Long-lasting Control:
    • Horizontal Transmission: Infected larvae liquefy upon death, leaking billions of new viral particles onto the foliage to infect other healthy larvae.
    • Vertical Transmission: Sub-lethally infected surviving adults pass the virus down to the next generation via their eggs.

Mode of Action (How It Works)

HearNPV is a stomach poison and must be ingested by the larvae to be effective:

  1. Ingestion: Larvae consume plant tissue sprayed with the virus occlusion bodies (OBs).
  2. Activation: The highly alkaline environment of the larval midgut dissolves the protective protein matrix of the OBs, releasing infectious virions.
  3. Replication: The virions penetrate the midgut cells and replicate rapidly within the cell nuclei of multiple host organs.
  4. Liquefaction & Death: Within 3–7 days, the larvae stop feeding, change color, crawl to the top of the plant canopy, and die. The body ruptures, dissolving into a virus-rich liquid that spreads across the canopy.
