Jinggangmycin (also known as Validamycin) is a highly efficient, low-toxicity, and low-residue agricultural antibiotic produced by Streptomyces hygroscopicus var. jinggangensis. It is widely regarded as the most effective biological agent for controlling Sheath Blight in rice, corn, and various vegetables.
1. Targets and Mode of Action
- Primary Targets: Specifically targets fungal diseases caused by Rhizoctonia solani, including Rice/Corn Sheath Blight, Cotton Damping-off, and Vegetable Fusarium Wilt.
- Mechanism: It works by interfering with the normal growth of the pathogen’s mycelia. Specifically, it inhibits trehalase activity within the fungal cells, cutting off their energy supply. This leads to abnormal branching and malformation at the tips of the hyphae, causing them to cease growth and lose their ability to infect the host plant.

- High Selectivity: Highly specialized against Rhizoctonia fungi while being virtually non-toxic to crops, humans, livestock, and aquatic life.
- Eco-Friendly: Being of biological origin, it degrades easily in the natural environment without causing pollution.
- Strong Systemic Activity: It possesses excellent systemic properties, allowing it to be absorbed by roots and leaves and translocated to infected areas. The protective effect typically lasts between 15–20 days.
3. Application Scenarios
- Rice Sheath Blight: The most prevalent application. Recommended for spraying during the late tillering or early heading stages.
- Corn Sheath Blight: Apply at the initial onset of the disease, focusing the spray on the lower stalks and foliage.
- Cotton Damping-off: Utilized as a seed treatment or soil drench to provide critical protection during the seedling stage.
